Democratization of technology has been the foundation of my career. My first hands-on experience with computers was at university when a few of us set up an e-mail service using open source software that connected us to what was then a new thing called the Internet. Suddenly, we could communicate with people anywhere in the world. This inspired me to move to the US and earn an MS in Computer Science, because I believe that working at the leading edge of technology is the best way to shape its impact.

While at Mozilla Labs, we took an open, user-centric desktop browser and created a portfolio of new services that became Firefox mobile and Firefox OS just as smartphones became ubiquitous. At Facebook, we needed to find a way for billions of people with low-end phones and 2G connectivity to join the high-end, high-speed world, so my team made that our focus. There, I also had the opportunity and challenge of taking Facebook’s pure AI research and turning it into deployable, scalable products that users would embrace.

I believe in the power of technology to increase access and opportunity for every human to realize their fullest potential and that to build enduring technology companies that serve society, you need innovation tempered with responsibility. At General Catalyst, I want to support the creation and growth of enduring companies by helping founders focused on solving deep rooted societal challenges on a global scale.

At home, I love spending time with my wife and three kids who keep us on our toes. I’m still close to my family and friends in India and visit them often. I love good coffee, going on hikes, listening to music, and watching international movies and TV shows. My wife and I support organizations committed to equity and social justice.
